Michael Herman’s Humana People to People China journey with development

2021-06-17

Our representative office in China, Humana People to People China, received the spotlight in the global edition of the China Daily online newspaper. Michael Herman, our Chief Representative officer in fighting the effects of poverty is featured as part of how the wider Humana People to People China has grown over the past 16 years.

The feature article starts with retracing the humble beginnings of Michael Herman coming to China, the inspiration of the rural people; their goodwill, selflessness, and humility. The fundamental values translated into a long-term Humana People to People China's contribution to addressing rural farming, rural community development, health issues, gaps in early childhood education as well as other targeted areas.

Over the past 16 years, Humana People to People China has worked in far-flung communities in Yunnan and Sichuan provinces and Chongqing to help curb HIV/AIDS, support village development and bolster children's early development.

"We do not 'fight poverty, since it is an abstract phenomenon," says Hermann, chief representative of the Federation of Associations connected to the International Humana People to People Movement Representative Offices.

"But rather, we 'fight alongside the poor'."
